Rockhounding Through Morocco

In early spring, we ventured deep into the heart of Morocco on an 11-day journey where geology met culture, and the wild landscapes of the Atlas Mountains gave way to the timeless silence of the Sahara. This special edition of our mineral collecting tour offered a richer experience than ever before, with an extra day in Midelt’s mineral-rich valleys and a night beneath the stars in the dunes of Merzouga. From the labyrinthine alleys of Fez to the red walls of Marrakech, this tour was more than a rockhounding adventure—it was a passage through time, earth, and culture. We explored legendary fossil beds, dug for vibrant fluorites, vanadinites, and desert agates, and wandered through Berber villages, ancient kasbahs, and surreal desertscapes.

Every day brought a new layer—of stone, story, and silence. Whether crouched beside a mountain slope discovering a flash of color in the rock, or sipping tea beneath a tamarisk tree after a long day of collecting, the tour offered space for both thrill and stillness. Explore the gallery below to revisit the journey through images. This was more than a tour. It was a mineral pilgrimage through one of the most geologically and culturally rich landscapes on earth.
